Fannie & Freddie Book Release Party on Oct 19

October 19, 2012 - 7:00pm

When they come for the home of Nurse Maggie McWhite, will the people of Homeville stand up for what's right?

Fannie and Freddie are mischievous, larger-than-life siblings who live in the village of Homeville alongside their neighbor, Nurse Maggie McWhite. When their neighbors express a desire to have their own homes, Fannie and Freddie concoct a scheme to swindle them out of their money. But their scheme quickly sets off a disastrous chain of events that threatens to destroy the village of Homeville--unless Maggie McWhite and her neighbors find the courage to stand up and fight back. This whimsical, collaboratively illustrated picture book uses rhyme and allegory to tell the story of the housing crisis--making it accessible for people of all ages.

Written by Becky Z. Dernbach. Illustrations by Eva Rose Cohen, Connie Gretsch, Dan P. Moore, Elizabeth Graff, Caylin Crawford, Kathleen Murphy-Andrus, and Cat Salonek. Photography by Mark R. Brown. Artistic direction by Jillia Pessenda Bovino. Graphic design by Bill Panks. Co-produced by Occupy Homes MN.

We will have refreshments, storytelling, the original artwork, and a reading. Family-friendly event--bring the kids!

ADAM PARFREY presents the strange history of secret societies in America in a slide show.

“Adam Parfrey is one of the nation’s most provocative publishers.”—Seattle Weekly

Based in Port Townsend, Feral House and Process Media are two of the most adventurous, often surprising publishers in the U.S., with a bent for revealing the otherwise obscured, undisclosed or under-documented. Adam Parfrey, himself a writer but also the publisher of both these presses, is here this evening to talk and show images from his own new book, Ritual America: Secret Brotherhoods and Their Influence on American Society: A Visual Guide (Feral House) co-authored with Craig Heimbichner. Ritual America illuminates the context and preponderance of American males who belonged to fraternal orders and the place of things today in new ways."
