Fresh Poetry

August 6, 2013 - 7:00pm

By day Mark Berriman works as Director of Operations for the Stillwater Gazette. By night, he’s a brazen poet, a mad gardener with bright flowers in his fist. Launching his newest book, Kink in the Chain, Berriman comes to Boneshaker to share that pain of punching the ground when your special someone squeezes your heart too hard.

Reading from his first book of poetry, Black Aperture —which won the 2012 Walt Whitman Award— McKnight Fellow Matt Rasmussen faces the trauma of his brother's suicide, delicately balancing his grief with humor and quiet rage. His work has been published in Paper Darts, Gulf Coast, Water~Stone Review, H_NGM_N, New York Quarterly, and Poets.org.

In 2006 Carol Connolly was appointed Saint Paul Poet Laureate for life. The first to hold this honor in Minnesota history, she’s the author of All This and More (Nodin Press) and her first book, Payments Due: Onstage Offstage (Midwest Villages &Voices), now in its fifth printing, was first produced for the stage in Los Angeles and then in Minneapolis, running for two years in each locale. Connolly curates a monthly series of Reading by Writers, now in its fourteenth year, to benefit Public Art Saint Paul.
