Join us for a discussion on cultivating a flexible and resourceful approach to bike repair, and how this might align with everyday needs in different parts of the world! After living in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Latvia, and (currently) in Guyana, author Sam Tracy comes home to offer observations about the dynamic bike culture he has encountered in each place -- seeing how far an old bike can really go in Mauritania; what a new community bike shop can mean for cyclists in Riga; and how Georgetown riders adopt cycling to fit their unique needs. We will also talk shop, in a friendly and inclusive way, so be sure to bring your most vexing bike repair questions!

Sam Tracy began producing the zine Biker Pride in the early 1990s, and the project later broadened just enough to become the urban cycling–focused Multiplier. He is the author of Roadside Bicycle Repair: A Pocket Manifesto and How to Rock and Roll: A City Rider’s Repair Manual.

Having toiled as a bicycle mechanic and messenger for more than a decade, Tracy is on an indefinite sabbatical writes and rides in Riga, Latvia.
