About the Meeting Room
The Boneshaker Meeting Room is a free and accessible space for the community to gather and for groups to meet. We prioritize events that are book-related, and groups that are in line with our mission of anti-oppression, decolonization, and abolition. While we encourage organizations and events to chip in some money to keep the space going, the Meeting Room is free to reserve. During store hours, the Meeting Room is open for individuals to use while there is no scheduled meeting or event taking place. We ask that those using the Meeting Room check in with volunteers before using the room and leave the space better than they found it – please tidy up after yourself, and let a Boneshaker volunteer know if anything needs cleaning or fixing.
Want to book the Meeting Room for your event or group?
Ask at the front counter or send a request to info@boneshakerbooks.com with the group/event name, preferred date and time, estimated number of people, and contact information.
Meeting Room Details & Accessibility Info
The Meeting Room can host groups of up to around 40 people depending on the setup (for larger groups or special events, we may be able to offer the main area of the bookstore—email info@boneshakerbooks.com for this type of request). Boneshaker can provide chairs, folding tables, and a projector and screen (but no speakers, so bring your own if needed). We ask that any group reserving the meeting room assist in setting up the space if possible.
Boneshaker has 33″ doorways without power-assisted doors and one single-stall accessible restroom. Masks are required inside Boneshaker, and the main area of the store has a large air purifier (bring your own if needed in the meeting room). The parking spaces in front of the store is available before 5pm on weekdays, but nearby street parking is recommended.
Event/Meeting Guidelines
While Boneshaker lacks the capacity to create marketing/social media materials for meeting room events, we are able to publicize the meeting or event as requested by the group through the normal Boneshaker channels of communication (sharing or posting on Instagram, Bluesky, or via our newsletter). Groups should send us info about the event (date, time, description) and any digital flyers/graphics at least 14 days in advance.
Groups must either set a specific date or day of the month they would like to reserve the meeting room (e.g. the first and third Sundays of the month, not “every other Sunday”).
If a group does not show up at their scheduled time twice in a row, their future reservations will be canceled and other groups will be able to reserve that time. We may be able to make case-by-case exceptions due to COVID exposures or other unforeseen circumstances that are communicated by the group in advance.
Boneshaker requires masks for everyone in the store; please include our mask requirement when you make promo materials and tell people about your event. We have free extra surgical masks for visitors, including event attendees. For large groups, we ask event organizers to consider bringing spare masks themselves to help us out.
In general, events and meetings should be scheduled during Boneshaker’s open hours, though we may be able to make exceptions based on volunteer capacity. Email info@boneshakerbooks.com with questions.
